1Password is looking for a Staff Product Designer - AI to shape the future of our AI product experiences. In this role, you will act as a strategic leader and expert practitioner, partnering with product and engineering to define direction that balances customer needs, market trends, and business goals.
What You'll Do
- Identify and define design solutions for complex and ambiguous problems in emerging AI-driven security spaces, collaborating with product and engineering to influence strategy.
- Lead the creation of a long-term UX vision and strategy for “AI for Security” and “Security for AI” features.
- Champion evidence-based design decisions by identifying data and research gaps, partnering with research to explore customer behaviors and expectations.
- Explore and prototype novel AI-driven interactions to assess their viability and usability, keeping user value, clarity, and control central.
- Act as a design leader and mentor, coaching designers on strategic thinking, systems-level design, and experimentation practices in AI contexts.
- Collaborate closely with the AI workstream including product, engineering, research, and data science teams to integrate user experience into model design and deployment decisions.
- Advocate for ethical and inclusive AI design, ensuring features align with our values around privacy, trust, and accessibility.
- Operate as a culture-builder on the Experience, Design and Research team—sharing work openly, shaping team rituals, and helping others navigate ambiguity.
- Pioneer the exploration and adoption of AI design tools.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of relevant product design experience, ideally in fast-paced, product-led companies, with staff-level responsibilities.
- Experience designing AI-powered product features or tooling, or a strong interest and capacity to ramp up quickly.
- Strong systems thinking: the ability to design for intelligent systems, user flows with non-deterministic outputs, and complex decision paths.
- Familiarity with concepts like model transparency, feedback loops, user control, and responsible AI, and how they impact product design.
- A strong understanding of human-centered design principles, and the ability to apply them with emerging, unpredictable technologies.
- Experience designing in a cybersecurity context or for privacy-sensitive domains; a commitment to designing secure, trustworthy, and accessible user experiences.
- A portfolio that demonstrates depth in information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, defining strategy, and bringing clarity through storytelling, facilitation, and collaboration.
- Proven ability to mentor and uplevel other designers, while role-modelling curiosity, resilience, and thoughtful design critique.
- A growth mindset and a track record of navigating complexity and change with focus and optimism.
Nice to Have
- Strong experience with inclusive design and accessibility, ensuring that designs are usable by all.
- Experience scaling design systems or shaping design guidelines for complex, multi-platform products.
- Contributions to the design community (e.g., open-source projects, speaking engagements, or published writing).
- Familiarity with developer tools or technical domains adjacent to cybersecurity.
Team & Environment
You will be part of the Experience, Design and Research (EDR) team, collaborating closely with the AI workstream including product, engineering, research, and data science teams.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: USA: $204,000 USD to $276,000 USD. Canada: $175,000 CAD to $237,000 CAD. + equity grant.
