Our Future Health is hiring a Staff Engineer (Research Enablement) to act as Tech Lead for a new squad dedicated to empowering researchers. You will play a key role in provisioning the tooling and resources that enable health insights from the Our Future Health resource, collaborating closely with partner DNAnexus and leading internal development.

What You'll Do

Act as Tech Lead for the Research Enablement squad.
Lead the development and integration of products and services built internally.
Play a key role in collaboration with the DNAnexus team on the Trusted Research Environment.
Operationally manage software components once live, including observability, logging, metrics, error reporting, debugging and live incident management.

What We're Looking For

Led the architectural design of systems.
Knowledge and experience of building cloud-hosted consumer web applications and backend services using open source technologies like Node.js, Ruby on Rails, or Python in a start-up or scale-up environment.
Experience building backend systems for data movement, processing, storage, and provisioning services for non-technical user data access.
Comfortable working with Infrastructure as Code, ideally with knowledge of Terraform.
Knowledge of good data modelling and design patterns; in-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and familiarity with other data store types.
Expertise in modern, agile development practices like code review, TDD, CI/CD and pairing using tools like Git and GitHub.
Experience of operationally managing live software components.
Experience of working with sensitive personal data.
Strong experience working and collaborating with vendors/partners.
Experience working in/with cross-functional teams consisting of engineers, product, UX and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to communicate with stakeholders and audiences at different levels.
Understanding of operational, security, and legal factors in solution design, with ability to articulate trade-offs.
Experience working in small, growing organisations with a high degree of ambiguity.
Strong understanding of software quality principles and practices.
Experience in mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers.
Comfortable in facilitating technical discussions, encouraging collaboration and providing direction.

Nice to Have

Prior experience with Azure (ideally), AWS or GCP.
