Role Overview
As a Senior Pipe Support Engineer, you will lead the development and analysis of pipe support systems for large-scale industrial projects, particularly within nuclear and environmental facilities. You will oversee design teams, create detailed 3D models, and ensure all systems meet safety, constructability, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or manage the work of design and drafting personnel in producing layouts, study drawings, and detailed 2D and 3D CAD models for construction
- Develop complex 3D equipment and piping layouts with minimal supervision, forming the basis for construction documentation
- Support procurement by preparing or reviewing material requisitions and evaluating vendor bids
- Ensure all designs comply with approved engineering standards to promote safety, reliability, and cost-effective construction
- Participate in constructability assessments to identify and resolve potential field issues
- Develop standardized design and drafting procedures to improve consistency and efficiency
- Conduct or coordinate site visits as needed to interpret drawings and resolve technical challenges
- Review design scope changes and report progress to project and discipline leads
- Verify that all systems adhere to applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards
Qualifications
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. Eligibility for a Department of Energy badge is required, even for telework roles. Individuals from countries designated as high-risk by the DOE may face additional security restrictions affecting site access.
Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if site-based), and background check verifying employment and education history.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering (or international equivalent) with 5–10 years of relevant experience is required, depending on level. Alternatively, 9–14 years of direct experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate with senior internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency with CAD and 3D modeling tools is essential, along with working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and AISC standards. Familiarity with common pipe support components and industry best practices is expected.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Richland, WA, requiring at least three days per week on-site. Telework is permitted part-time, though the arrangement may change at company discretion. The position follows a 9/80 work schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from $90,990 to $160,220, with discretionary bonuses available. The benefits package includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; optional disability and supplemental insurance; and a 401(k) plan with company match and profit-sharing. Employees accrue 160 hours of paid time off annually and enjoy nine paid holidays and paid parental leave. Relocation support is authorized for eligible candidates.
