Role Overview
A Senior Field Service Technician is responsible for the full lifecycle of industrial equipment service, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and customer training. This position operates primarily in the Richmond, VA area, with frequent daily travel and recurring overnight stays. The role requires a high level of technical proficiency and accountability in safety, documentation, and customer communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all safety protocols and complete required training on schedule.
- Diagnose and resolve complex equipment failures involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to support installations, repairs, and retrofits.
- Perform preventative maintenance, disassemble equipment, replace faulty components, and verify operational performance.
- Document service activities, expenses, and non-conformance findings accurately and on time.
- Communicate clearly with customers, management, and engineering teams about issues, solutions, and follow-up actions.
- Conduct training sessions for both customer personnel and internal technicians on repair and maintenance procedures.
- Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades and retrofits, and support proposal development.
- Assist in planning installations by coordinating site reviews and pre-installation meetings.
- Report unsafe conditions and recommend corrective measures.
- Support inventory planning by advising on parts and stock levels for assigned equipment.
- Use intermediate PLC knowledge to troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers.
- Manage service schedules to ensure timely and accurate completion of field calls.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven ability to interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing multi-system equipment failures.
- Intermediate knowledge of PLCs for industrial control systems.
- Strong documentation skills for service records and expense reporting.
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Commitment to safety standards and proactive hazard reporting.
- Willingness and ability to travel daily with frequent overnight stays, including drives of up to six hours.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers an hourly wage of $36 to $40. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, 401k, paid time off, life insurance, and wellness incentives. The role is onsite with no remote option and requires regular regional travel.
