SpaceX is hiring a Sr. Environmental & Materials Compliance Engineer (Starlink)

About the Role

The role involves ensuring products adhere to global environmental and materials compliance standards through evaluation, testing, and coordination with engineering and supply chain teams.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate materials and components for adherence to environmental regulations
  • Develop and maintain compliance documentation for international standards
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to integrate compliance early in development
  • Conduct audits of supplier data and material declarations
  • Support product certifications for global markets
  • Monitor changes in environmental legislation affecting hardware production
  • Lead efforts to meet RoHS, REACH, and other regulatory requirements
  • Assist in resolving non-conformance issues related to materials
  • Work with testing labs to validate compliance of parts and assemblies
  • Maintain databases of approved materials and substances
  • Provide technical guidance on hazardous substance restrictions
  • Develop internal standards aligned with regulatory frameworks
  • Track environmental compliance metrics across product lines
  • Support environmental reporting for space hardware systems
  • Ensure proper labeling and data exchange with partners
  • Participate in design reviews to assess compliance risks
  • Manage documentation for substance exemptions
  • Coordinate with legal and regulatory experts on compliance strategy
  • Support sustainability initiatives in product design
  • Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes
  • Interface with external certification bodies
  • Assist in qualifying alternative materials for compliance
  • Ensure traceability of materials through supply chain
  • Prepare compliance evidence for regulatory submissions
  • Advocate for design choices that reduce environmental impact
