AEVEX is looking for a Sr. Aeromechanical Engineer to tackle the nation's hardest problems through rapidly deployed technology solutions. In this lead role, you'll take napkin sketches of airplanes and robots to final production, guiding a small agile team from concept to 1.0 prototype.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a senior role within the engineering team, helping to lead the design and development of UAS products and subsystems.
- Build and test prototype systems to validate designs.
- Make decisions for design challenges and coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering groups.
- Perform all vehicle designs from initial concept to complete production-ready design.
- Conduct formal and informal presentations on designs.
- Use scientific and engineering principles to assess deficiencies in any given design and the impact of potential changes.
- Make complex decisions to meet stated and derived requirements.
- Complete assigned tasks within the project schedule and budget.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to others in both technical discipline and company values.
- Conduct FEA and CFD simulation analysis on aircraft and powerplants.
- Design airframes and other aeromechanical parts.
- Act as an interface to customers as ideas are communicated.
- Travel as required.
What We're Looking For
- Active Top Secret DoD clearance preferred. U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a progressive technical capacity within an engineering organization.
- Demonstrated competence in Mechanical Engineering processes and design/analysis tools, solving Mechanics & Kinematics problems, and solving Thermodynamics problems.
- Experience in successfully designing mil-spec electronics products.
- Demonstrated understanding of metallic, plastic, and composite material properties.
- Demonstrated ability to solve basic structural dynamics problems.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of industry design and documentation standards (GD&T, ASME, Change Control, etc.).
- Experience with designing: machined parts, composite parts, injection molded parts, sheet metal parts, wire assemblies, and mechanical assemblies for low, medium, and high-volume manufacturing processes.
- Experience with: mechanical, lab, field, flight, and environmental testing.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering configuration management processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work with high-level program requirements, organize, schedule, and delegate tasks to an engineering team.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Willingness to work long irregular hours around deadlines, weekends, some holidays, and in-field test environments as required.
