The AES Corporation is hiring a Solar Technician II to support the operations and maintenance of utility-scale solar sites in North Carolina. In this role, you will ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient performance of solar generation facilities.
What You'll Do
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment including inverters, combiner boxes, PV modules, DC and AC collection systems, and communication equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance, electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration, and basic inverter troubleshooting.
- Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders.
- Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
- Assist with site vegetation mitigation plans, including operating tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment.
- Write Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other documents as assigned.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
- Perform work independently and/or in work crews.
- Participate in required training.
- Perform other technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power facility.
What We're Looking For
- A 2-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman qualifications.
- Three (3) or more years of experience as a PV O&M solar technician.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a power plant and one (1) or more years of experience in PV Solar O&M or construction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory application.
- Basic knowledge of the operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.
Nice to Have
- Understanding and promotion of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards.
- Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at a solar generation facility and its associated substation.
- Proven experience with a multitude of electrical/construction projects and knowledge of basic IT equipment.
- Knowledgeable in Substation equipment, systems, and operations.
- Ability to excel in a collaborative, cross-functional, and geographically diverse organization.
- Maturity, professionalism and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
