This role involves building and maintaining automated testing systems for Android and iOS mobile applications as part of the Venmo engineering team. The individual will lead quality assurance efforts across the software development lifecycle, working closely with developers and product teams to ensure high product standards. The position requires technical leadership, strategic planning, and a strong commitment to quality, with significant autonomy in decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Deliver end-to-end solutions across all stages of the software development lifecycle, guided by senior direction.
- Advise management on project-specific challenges and technical risks.
- Mentor and support junior engineering staff in skill development and best practices.
- Operate independently with minimal daily oversight, making technical decisions aligned with internal standards and industry norms.
- Apply knowledge of technical best practices to guide testing and development decisions.
- Take full ownership of testing for products and new features.
- Define and execute comprehensive testing strategies that align with business and development goals.
- Lead the creation of scalable, adaptable automated testing frameworks and tools.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to embed quality assurance early in development.
- Promote and integrate CI/CD practices by embedding automated tests into deployment pipelines.
- Lead investigations into complex defects, working with developers to implement lasting fixes.
- Write and maintain test automation code in a collaborative team environment.
- Amplify team impact by leveraging peer collaboration to deliver high-quality user experiences.
- Regularly contribute improvements to the organization's testing frameworks.
- Develop internal tools to support automation, load testing, and performance evaluation.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and professional background.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in backend testing.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages and test automation frameworks.
- Comfortable working in command-line environments and with database systems.
- Proven ability to lead the design and implementation of large-scale test automation strategies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills with experience mentoring team members.

Compensation
Base pay range: $143,500 - $212,850 annually depending on location. Additional compensation may include equity, an annual performance bonus, or other incentive pay.
Work Arrangement
Hybrid – San Jose, California – 3 days in office, 2 days remote or in office at employee's discretion.
