Affirm is looking for a Software Engineer II, Backend to join our Consumer Engineering team. You will be responsible for building scalable foundational systems and data pipelines to power Affirm's Card platforms. Your work will involve designing robust Card Processing systems to deliver accurate and timely data for downstream teams like Accounting, Treasury, and Strategic Finance.
What You'll Do
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
- Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics.
- Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics and supporting on-call efforts.
- Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.
- Build and integrate data pipelines from a wide variety of products and systems.
- Build a foundational platform which enables a wide range of critical processes, including reconciling each individual transaction across systems, partners, and cash movements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems.
- Proficient in Python.
- Familiar with the building blocks of distributed systems, and technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
- Ability to take a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and execute on it by writing clear, easily understood, well tested and extensible code.
- Comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
- Demonstrated ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team.

Compensation: €71,000 - €101,000 + equity (Equity Grade - Spain 3).
