Software Engineer II - Backend Virtual (Remote) About the Company: Octave is an innovative behavioral health organization revolutionizing care delivery through comprehensive, accessible mental health services. Operating both in-person and virtual clinics across multiple states, the company provides evidence-based therapy while developing strategic partnerships with insurers to enhance affordability and accessibility. About the Role: The Engineer II is instrumental in developing robust technological systems supporting clients, providers, and operational infrastructure. As part of a dynamic team, you'll work remotely utilizing Python (Django/FastAPI), gRPC, and GraphQL to integrate and streamline operational processes and maintain scheduling integrations with diverse partners. Responsibilities Include: Technical Skills: - Design, develop, and implement scalable backend systems and APIs using Python - Optimize database design, performance, and security - Conduct comprehensive testing and debugging of backend applications - Manage deployment and maintenance of backend services - Champion best practices and maintain high-quality codebase - Create and maintain technical documentation - Oversee entire backend development lifecycle - Produce clean, testable code with effective commenting - Participate in technical feature design with guidance - Systematically debug issues with potential senior engineer support - Focus on developing expertise in specific technical domains - Communicate assumptions and seek task clarification proactively Teamwork: - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements - Integrate frontend and backend systems seamlessly - Engage in technical discussions and design reviews - Participate in on-call rotation for issue resolution - Understand project context and identify requirement challenges - Share knowledge with teammates - Support colleagues in overcoming obstacles - Work independently on assigned tasks Preferred Qualifications: - Minimum 3 years backend application development experience - Infrastructure-as-code and continuous deployment expertise - Healthcare technology or regulated industry background - Proficiency with gRPC and Protobuf - Experience with relational databases - Third-party API integration skills - Continuous delivery capabilities - Strong Python and web framework knowledge - Enterprise Python application development experience - Commitment to code quality and automated testing - Strong cross-functional communication skills - Mission-driven motivation in healthcare Octave's Company Values: - Prioritize human-centered empathy - Challenge status quo - Demand active participant engagement - Embrace collaborative partnerships - Maintain quality at scale - Continuously improve - Recognize individual human experiences Physical Requirements: - Extended computer work - Virtual meeting participation - Information observation on company laptop - Occasional light lifting - United States work eligibility Compensation: Salary ranges vary by geographic zone: Zone 1: $117,800 - $125,900 Zone 2: $129,600 - $138,500 Zone 3: $135,500 - $144,800 Benefits include stock options, insurance, retirement plans, and comprehensive paid time off.
