Carta is hiring a Software Engineer II to join as a Senior Design Systems Engineer. You will be responsible for evolving Carta's design system, Ink, to create foundational components, tooling, and documentation. You'll work at the intersection of design and engineering, architecting the component library and researching how it can support AI-driven interfaces.
What You'll Do
- Architect and evolve the Ink component library by building and maintaining robust, production-ready React components.
- Redefine the Design System for the Agentic Age by leading R&D on how the system evolves to support AI-driven interfaces.
- Bridge the gap between design and code by acting as a technical translator, turning Figma concepts into performant UI code.
- Elevate frontend quality and developer velocity by driving projects to improve animation, CSS architecture, and system modularity.
- Coach and advocate for system adoption by mentoring engineers and designers, conducting reviews, and gathering feedback.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of relevant experience in frontend engineering with a strong focus on design systems, AI-assisted development, or UI infrastructure.
- Expert-level knowledge of React (modern patterns, hooks, context), CSS (architecture, scalability), and animation technologies.
- Comfortable working and collaborating inside Figma and understanding interaction design nuances.
- Track record of replacing custom, one-off UI with modular, reusable solutions.

- Experience actively pushing the limits of what design systems can do with AI and optimizing for AI development patterns.
- A 'polish-oriented' mindset with a focus on accessibility, performance, and visual fidelity.
