Sysco is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our production systems. This position bridges the gap between development and operations by applying engineering principles to operational challenges. The SRE is responsible for designing and implementing reliable, scalable, and secure systems, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, and driving automation to reduce manual toil. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, DevOps, and support teams to improve incident response, enhance monitoring and alerting, and maintain high system availability. The SRE also contributes to capacity planning, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that services meet reliability and performance standards. This is a hands-on technical role that requires a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, system architecture, and incident management, with a focus on long-term system health and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine end-to-end processes for tracking support issues from initial intake to resolution in collaboration with senior team members.
  • Participate in strategic planning to enhance the long-term adaptability and sustainability of the product ecosystem.
  • Work closely with Level 1 support, DevOps, engineering, and customers to guide decision-making and implement operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with offshore Level 2 SRE teams and onshore/offshore management to ensure consistent service reliability.
  • Conduct root cause analyses on high-severity incidents to prevent recurrence and strengthen system resilience.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of system architecture, applications, and their integrations to support effective troubleshooting.
  • Partner with platform teams to optimize monitoring systems and alerting mechanisms for faster detection and response.
  • Evaluate technology strategy, tools, resource allocation, and compliance practices under the guidance of the SRE Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a technical operations or systems support role.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with enterprise cloud platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended or non-standard hours and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Nice to Have

  • 5 years of experience in technical operations or systems support.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Familiarity with application performance monitoring tools such as DataDog, New Relic, Nagios, and Splunk.
  • Experience working in an agile software development environment.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid position requiring 3 to 4 days per week on-site at location 77077. On-site requirements may increase based on business needs.

Collaborates with Level 1 support, DevOps, Engineering, offshore Level 2 SRE teams, and offshore management. Reports to the SRE Manager.
