About the Role

Barclays is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response. You will ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of systems, platforms, and technology, with a focus on maintaining and improving electronic trading systems.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
  • Resolve, analyze, and respond to system outages and disruptions, implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload and improving system resilience.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning best practices.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate reliability, scalability, and performance best practices into the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain and improve the reliability and scalability of electronic trading systems including Connectivity Gateways, Trading Algorithms, and routing engines.
  • Develop and extend internal tools leveraging high-level programming languages such as Python in a multi-tiered Linux environment.
  • Monitor latency, throughput, and system health using tools such as ITRS, Corvil, and Elastic.
  • Perform daily release management across the global e-trading stack, providing change management oversight and release implementation.
  • Conduct detailed postmortems and lessons learned to drive stability and increase Mean Time To Recover (MTTR).
  • Support Exchange mandatory upgrades and other market events, including heightened awareness support during market volatility.
  • Maintain rigorous and concise documentation for operational runbooks and systems support.
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, set objectives, coach employees, and appraise performance.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
