Coinbase is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical evolution of software development and architect an AI-first ecosystem for our engineering teams. This role pioneers LLM integration and defines AI-native engineering standards to enable high-velocity, high-quality development across the organization.

What You'll Do

• Architect an AI-First Ecosystem by deeply embedding AI agents into the development loop to automate test generation, refactor legacy code, proactively detect bugs, and optimize performance.
• Pioneer LLM Integration by prototyping, building, and deploying the next generation of autonomous engineering tools based on a strong thesis on how LLMs and agents will rewrite the SDLC.
• Bridge the gap between AI and fundamentals by partnering with infrastructure counterparts to ensure AI tools scale securely and performantly on a stable, rigorously tested underlying architecture.
• Treat Platform as a Product by guiding the technical direction to build and scale a best-in-class Internal Developer Platform that treats internal engineers as customers, removing friction.
• Define the AI-Native Engineering Standard by helping to establish the changing workflows, technical standards, and best practices required for the next generation of engineering at Coinbase.

What We're Looking For

• Deep AI Conviction & Application: A strong thesis on how LLMs and agents will rewrite the SDLC, with experience or a clear plan for practically applying AI to solve engineering bottlenecks.
• Principal-Level Technical Authority: Deep technical judgment in engineering fundamentals - CI/CD, public cloud (AWS/GCP), container orchestration, and modern testing methodologies.
• Product Mindset: Deep empathy for developers, treating the platform as a product, consistently gathering feedback and iterating to reduce friction and improve user satisfaction.
• AI Agents: Direct experience deploying internal AI assistants, 'Copilot-at-scale' initiatives, or autonomous coding agents.
• Quality at Speed: Ability to leverage automation to drive high velocity without sacrificing quality, designing systems where security and reliability are standard, enabling frequent, safe deployments at massive scale.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience at a fast paced, high growth stage internet/software company.
