ALTEN is hiring a Senior Qt/C++ Migration Engineer to lead the migration of a large, existing Qt 4.8 codebase to Qt 6 on Embedded Linux. You will be responsible for ensuring system stability and backward compatibility for existing devices while modernizing the software architecture.
What You'll Do
- Take technical responsibility for migrating a large Qt 4.8 codebase to Qt 6, ensuring backward compatibility for existing devices.
- Analyze and optimize existing Qt APIs, GUI components, and architectural structures for a stable, performant implementation.
- Work closely with embedded teams, bringing deep understanding of Embedded Linux build systems, ideally PTXdist.
- Ensure firmware builds are maximally controllable, maintainable long-term, and stably updatable.
- Proactively drive topics like Software Maintenance, Vulnerability Management, and continuous quality improvement.
What We're Looking For
- A completed degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a comparable technical field.
- Several years of experience in C++ – both modern standards and safe handling of legacy codebases.
- Deep knowledge of Qt – especially Qt 4 and Qt 6 – and ideally experience implementing migrations between versions.
- Understanding of the differences between Qt Widgets, Qt Quick, deprecated APIs, and modern Qt architectures.
- Familiarity with Embedded Linux, ideally with: PTXdist, Cross-Compiling, Firmware Build & Deployment.
- Experience in Memory Management, Debugging, and performant embedded programming.
- Fluent communication in English.
Nice to Have
- German language skills are a plus.
- Previous experience in industrial or device-related environments.
