GitLab is hiring a Senior Product Designer, Policies

About the Role

Shape the future of security and compliance through design

As a Senior Product Designer focused on policies, you'll lead the creation of user experiences that simplify how organizations manage security governance and regulatory compliance. Your work will directly impact how users define, monitor, and enforce policies across the software development lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end design for policy configuration, compliance reporting, and governance workflows
  • Transform intricate security and regulatory concepts into intuitive, accessible interfaces
  • Design for diverse audiences—from security specialists setting policy rules to developers interpreting compliance feedback
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and security teams to define priorities and scope minimum viable changes
  • Ensure seamless integration with related security features like vulnerability management and CI/CD pipelines
  • Deliver polished, high-fidelity designs with strong attention to interaction and visual detail
  • Contribute to and extend the design system by identifying reusable patterns and proposing new components
  • Validate design direction through usability testing, competitive analysis, and user research
  • Engage with internal and external users to uncover needs and inform long-term strategy
  • Communicate design intent clearly through wireframes, prototypes, and documentation
  • Present solutions to stakeholders, document decisions, and support asynchronous collaboration
  • Iterate effectively within release cycles, review user-facing changes, and advocate for usability

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience designing enterprise security, compliance, or DevSecOps tools
  • A portfolio showcasing full-cycle design projects from problem definition to shipped product
  • Ability to distill complex technical systems into clear, user-focused workflows
  • Strong collaboration skills with experience across distributed, cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with design systems and balancing consistency with innovation
  • Skill in conducting research and using insights to guide design decisions
  • Proficiency in Figma and prototyping tools
  • Experience working in remote environments

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Flexible work model with global reach
  • A culture that values every voice, embraces AI, and supports rapid career growth
  • An inclusive, high-performance environment where innovation thrives

GitLab is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace for all team members.
