Senior PostgreSQL Database Support Engineer (Remote) at Percona
You will join Percona's global support team as a Senior PostgreSQL Database Support Engineer, providing expert-level assistance to Fortune 50 companies facing complex database challenges. This fully remote role emphasizes technical excellence, self-direction, and clear communication across email, chat, voice, and screen-sharing platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support customer DBA teams with high-complexity PostgreSQL and MySQL database issues
- Investigate and analyze problems, delivering clear findings via email, messaging, or voice
- Conduct screen-sharing sessions for critical production incidents
- Write technical blog posts and contribute to the open-source community
- Answer questions on forums and expand the customer-facing knowledge base
Required Qualifications:
- Expert-level experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including ecosystem tools
- Familiarity with tools such as Percona Xtrabackup, Patroni, pgBouncer, barman, ProxySQL, and HAProxy
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and troubleshooting databases in these environments
- Database performance tuning: query optimization, indexing, and configuration
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills
- Methodical problem-solving and ability to resolve complex, non-standard issues
- Self-motivated with a passion for learning emerging technologies
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- Willingness to travel internationally for team events or customer needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Kubernetes certifications or training
- Production experience with Percona Operators
- Software development skills in C, C++, or Go
- Advanced Linux troubleshooting using gdb, perf, strace, bpftrace, or tcpdump
- Experience with MongoDB, Valkey/Redis, Percona Monitoring and Management, or Percona Toolkit
- Background in SLA-driven support environments
- Remote work proficiency using Slack, Zoom, and screen-sharing tools
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Strong ANSI SQL knowledge including Window functions and recursive CTEs
- Open source contributions and mentoring experience
