Copeland is hiring a Senior Mechanical Development Engineer to lead mechanical design efforts and technical execution for our HVAC controls and cold chain products. You will drive projects from concept to mass production, coordinating cross-functional integration to meet functional, cost, quality, and schedule goals.
What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical design efforts to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions aligned with overall product strategies.
- Drive technical execution for assigned modules, including material selection, design approach, and validation methods.
- Perform detailed tolerance analyses, GD&T, and dimensional stack-ups to ensure subsystem performance and production readiness.
- Conduct mechanical validation through simulations (FEA), prototype testing, and detailed data analysis; recommend design improvements.
- Implement DFM/DFA/DFX principles throughout design phases to contribute to yield optimization, cost control, and robustness improvements.
- Collaborate closely with electronics, software, and industrial design teams to achieve integrated, system-level solutions.
- Identify and resolve mechanical issues during prototype, pilot builds, and initial mass production through effective root cause analysis.
- Participate in cross-functional discussions with global teams to align on design approaches, product requirements, and regional considerations.
- Support enhancement of mechanical design workflows and documentation standards, contributing to continuous process and quality improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and sharing expertise to build team capability.
- Evaluate design trade-offs and cost implications, offering recommendations to improve product competitiveness during early-stage development.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.

- Proven track record of delivering mechanical designs from concept to mass production, supporting cross-functional and global collaboration.
- Solid understanding of HVAC product requirements, industry standards, and compliance documentation practices.
- Strong practical experience designing plastic and metal components, including injection molding, die casting, stamping, and sheet metal forming processes.
- Proficient in tolerance analysis, GD&T, and 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
- Experience in implementing DFM/DFA principles, design validation processes, and collaborating effectively with electronic and industrial design teams.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and joining techniques including ultrasonic welding, SMT, gluing, and various surface finishing methods.
- Ability to translate system-level and customer requirements into detailed component-level design specifications.
- Hands-on prototyping skills and practical familiarity with common workshop tools and measurement instruments.
- Demonstrated ability in conducting root cause analysis and problem-solving, contributing actively to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience communicating and coordinating with international suppliers and teams across different time zones.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools for technical documentation and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, capable of clearly conveying technical information and collaborating effectively across teams.
