L0105 Lithia Home Office is hiring a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant to manage our Canadian indirect tax compliance and support U.S. sales and use tax audits. In this role, you will drive process improvements within the tax function and contribute to cross-functional projects that enhance overall tax compliance and operational efficiency.
What You'll Do
- Review and file Canadian GST/HST, PST, Luxury Tax, and other indirect tax returns accurately and on time.
- Reconcile tax accounts, verify data accuracy, and maintain supporting documentation.
- Monitor changes in Canadian indirect tax laws and recommend process or system updates.
- Manage U.S. and Canadian indirect tax audits, including data gathering, analysis, responses, and acting as the primary contact for auditors and advisors.
- Prepare defense files, assess findings, and support negotiations or resolutions for audits.
- Conduct tax research and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Implement corrective actions and process improvements to reduce audit risk and strengthen controls.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve indirect tax reporting, reconciliation, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, and IT teams to improve data quality, streamline tax processes, and maintain strong controls.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of tax processes to ensure compliance with company policies and audit standards.
- Support ad hoc projects, including tax research, process improvements, and system integrations.
- Assist with tax risk assessments and advise on indirect tax impacts of new products, transactions, or business models.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in corporate or indirect tax compliance.
- Exposure to Canadian GST/HST/PST and U.S. sales & use tax.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. indirect tax regulations, audit procedures, and compliance best practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- 18 years or older.
Nice to Have
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and tax compliance tools.
