Responsibilities
- Understand customer constraints, data flows, systems, and priorities; translate business needs into scalable technical requirements and architectures.
- Scope technical risk, evaluate trade-offs, and develop proofs-of-concept during sales cycles.
- Design and build embedded solutions, including integrations, inference stacks, caching, and monitoring; adapt code, connectors, and scripts for end-to-end deployments.
- Instrument observability with logging, metrics, and alerts to ensure reliability and performance.
- Debug and resolve production issues, such as latency, networking, and performance bottlenecks.
- Document, train, and hand off embedded systems to customer teams for long-term success.
- Define reusable patterns, starter kits, and internal libraries to accelerate future implementations.
- Report customer pain points and missing APIs to product and engineering teams to guide roadmap improvements and platform standardization.
- Participate in roadmap discussions, advocate for robust design practices, and help shape the future of Forward Deployed Engineering through best practices, shared tools, and close collaboration with core engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining production-grade software systems (backend, integrations, or infrastructure).
- Experience in consulting or client-facing implementation roles, with comfort operating in ambiguity, translating requirements, and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills across backend, APIs, data, and distributed systems.
- Experience debugging latency, network, memory, and performance issues across the stack, with fluency in observability and tracing tools (e.g., Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
- Proven ability to design and implement robust integrations (REST, streaming, web hooks, data pipelines) with external systems and handle edge cases like partial data or schema drift.
- Exposure to machine learning or LLM systems, including inference stacks, embeddings, or model-serving pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and able to articulate trade-offs, constraints, and risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated autonomy and ownership in delivering end-to-end technical solutions, including greenfield or high-ambiguity projects.
- Willingness to travel when needed, and familiarity with security/compliance considerations in regulated environments.
