As a Senior Engineering Manager - Grid, you will oversee teams of engineers, designers, and technical specialists focused on the planning, design, and evaluation of high-voltage substation systems. Your role centers on delivering technically sound, code-compliant solutions across diverse project types, including EPC, Engineer-Procure, and large-scale engineering-only engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams through all phases of electrical system design, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, regulatory codes, and client expectations
- Direct electrical team leads in developing design foundations, equipment selection, and detailed engineering deliverables
- Manage project performance to meet strict quality, schedule, and financial targets
- Review and validate scopes of work, procurement documents, and contract proposals for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare clear, concise technical reports and studies that communicate engineering findings effectively
- Ensure compliance with standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and NEMA across all project phases
- Support proposal development, cost estimation, risk assessment, and resource allocation processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Minimum 20 years of experience in high-voltage utility project design or management
- Proven background in transmission, substation, or energy sector project leadership
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical reporting and client-facing documentation
- Experience managing budgets, cost control, and financial performance of engineering projects
- Track record in proposal writing and client engagement
Preferred Background
- Advanced degree or certification in management or business administration
- Experience working under EPC, joint venture, or owner’s engineer contract models
- History of serving as a technical liaison between firm and client teams
