Responsibilities
- Designs and manages SQL Server databases hosted on-premises and in Azure, including Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, using secure and compliant architectural patterns.
- Enhances database performance by refining queries, managing indexes, and optimizing resource usage while following data governance and security policies in cloud environments.
- Implements data protection controls such as encryption technologies (Transparent Data Encryption, Always Encrypted), Azure Active Directory integration, and role-based access controls.
- Creates and maintains data governance structures that include data classification, lineage documentation, and metadata oversight to support data integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Develops and maintains backup, restore, and high-availability solutions using Azure Blob Storage, Azure Backup, and Always On Availability Groups to ensure data resilience.
- Monitors for security risks using Azure Defender for SQL, audit logging, and compliance monitoring tools while enforcing governance standards.
- Diagnoses and resolves advanced issues related to databases, security configurations, and governance policies on SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms with minimal operational impact.
- Partners with software development teams to create secure, high-performance database schemas for cloud-based applications, integrating security and governance from the outset.
- Automates routine database operations, security checks, and governance tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, and Azure Automation to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Performs periodic security evaluations, vulnerability testing, and governance audits on Azure-hosted databases to meet legal and industry standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC.
- Leads the migration of on-premises SQL Server systems to Azure cloud databases, ensuring secure data movement, verification, and compliance with governance rules.
- Offers technical guidance on Azure data services like Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics, focusing on secure data handling and regulatory alignment.
- Collaborates with business and technical stakeholders to define, implement, and enforce data management policies that ensure data accuracy, access, and responsibility.
- Provides training and mentorship to junior database administrators and IT personnel in Microsoft database systems, Azure operations, security practices, and governance frameworks.
