Nory is looking for a Senior Data Scientist (Applied Machine Learning) to build practical machine learning systems that drive results in the messy, real world of live restaurant operations. This role focuses on ownership, moving fast with rigour, and delivering meaningful business impact.
What You'll Do
- Own ML end-to-end: Take problems from initial framing through to production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Design, build, and maintain machine learning systems that optimise how our customers operate day-to-day.
- Apply statistical and ML rigour: Choose the right tool for the job and explain why.
- Build with monitoring and retraining in mind so models keep learning and delivering value in production.
- Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and designers to embed ML into our product to drive commercial outcomes.
- Focus on business impact: success measured by improved margins, better efficiency, and clearer decisions for customers.
- Contribute to culture by sharing learnings, giving feedback, and shaping how we grow the ML craft at Nory.
What We're Looking For
- Proven end-to-end ownership: shipped ML systems in production more than once.
- Strong classical ML foundation: comfortable with forecasting, regression, classification, drift detection, causal reasoning, and feature engineering.
- Statistical & experimental thinking: apply rigour in designing solutions and testing outcomes.
- Hands-on technical skills: strong Python, confident with ML libraries like scikit-learn, pandas, and LightGBM.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCP) and modern data tools (e.g., dbt, Snowflake).
- Cross-collaboration: thrive in highly collaborative environments, communicate clearly, and offer help.
- Clear communicator: explain complex ideas simply, listen well, and bring others along.
- Startup-ready mindset: proactive, resourceful, thrive in ambiguity, bias towards action.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in lean data teams with high ownership cultures.
- Background in B2B SaaS or operational domains (e.g., logistics, supply chain, workforce planning).
- Exposure to LLMs or modern NLP approaches.
Technical Stack
- Python, scikit-learn, pandas, LightGBM
- GCP, dbt, Snowflake
