Role Overview
As the Senior Color, Material & Finish (CMF) Engineer, you will lead the technical execution of CMF strategies within the Video Collaboration product line. You will bridge industrial design vision with engineering reality, ensuring that materials, finishes, and color applications are both aesthetically precise and technically sound across high-volume manufacturing cycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary owner of CMF engineering throughout new product introduction (NPI) projects
- Collaborate closely with JDM/ODM partners to align on technical requirements, timelines, and deliverables
- Lead material selection, process validation, and feasibility assessments for CMF components
- Develop detailed technical specifications and appearance standards for color, texture, and finish
- Define measurable inspection criteria and approve limit samples as final benchmarks
- Assess early-stage designs to recommend engineering-driven improvements
- Balance visual quality with production efficiency through informed technical trade-offs
- Identify and resolve defects or failures in appearance or performance during development phases
- Apply structured methodologies such as DFM, DFMEA, and FACA to proactively address risks
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in material engineering, mechanical design, industrial design, or related field within consumer electronics
- Strong understanding of polymers, metals, coatings, and surface treatments used in mass production
- Proven experience in defining color standards, material reliability testing, and appearance validation
- Skilled in using data-driven tools like DFM and DFMEA to guide engineering decisions
- Ability to manage fast-moving NPI timelines and drive external partners to successful outcomes
- Fluent in English and Chinese, with strong communication skills for global teams
- Capable of presenting technical findings and strategic recommendations to stakeholders at all levels
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with AI-enhanced design or engineering workflows
- Background in audio or video hardware development with global supply chain partners
- Experience managing suppliers in dynamic, cross-regional environments
- Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
- Knowledge of environmental regulations including RoHS and REACH
- Experience implementing sustainable materials and eco-conscious CMF solutions
