Excelitas is hiring a Senior Buyer to drive supply chain initiatives that support new product introductions. In this role, you will foster strong cross-functional alignment and optimize supplier performance.
What You'll Do
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and control groups to procure materials.
- Identify suppliers capable of meeting materials specifications, quality requirements, and lead times.
- Request quotations, negotiate pricing and delivery schedules, and facilitate contract negotiations.
- Compile quote comparison matrices and collaborate for optimal supplier selection.
- Release new materials and maintain pricing, lead time, and purchasing parameters in ERP and Document Control systems.
- Issue purchase orders and manage open orders in the ERP system with emphasis on data accuracy.
- Monitor open purchase orders to ensure on-time deliveries.
- Maintain purchase order status and shipment tracking information.
- Proactively report potential shortages and availability issues and work with suppliers to resolve delays.
- Establish priorities for assigned suppliers to meet customer requirements.
- Act as the primary interface between internal customers and suppliers in technical, quality, and FAI discussions.
- Control inventory of assigned products in accordance with customer requirements and management objectives.
- Process returns of non-conforming products to suppliers.
- Support other members of the Purchasing team through cross training and flexing as needed.
- Help define, develop, and document Supply Chain and Purchasing processes for New Program Introductions.
- Act as a subject matter expert and provide direction for the purchasing aspects of the ERP transition to SAP.
- May perform as a buyer/planner role in a new product introduction.
- Ensure compliance with company operating policies and procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Complete special projects and assignments as requested by Management.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of purchasing experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
- Demonstrated skills in sourcing, purchasing, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
- Knowledge and understanding of production operations, purchasing, and inventory planning.
- Problem solving skills, including logical thought processes to resolve complex issues.
- Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
- Purchasing experience in an ERP environment.
- Advanced computer skills, solid skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with in-depth Excel knowledge.
- Strong analytical skills, data collection and report creation experience.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong team player with proven ability to facilitate collaboration in cross regional and multi-cultural teams.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Nice to Have
- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Production and Operations Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or other related field.
- APICS certifications.
- Defense and/or optics experience.
- Familiarity with ITAR compliance and procurement of materials for defense products.
- Experience in a new product implementation environment and low volume purchasing.
- SAP experience.
- Project Management experience.
- Strong leadership skills.
