Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to play a pivotal part in designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support innovative product features. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the backend architecture meets the needs of enterprise-scale deployments.
What You'll Do
- Lead backend development of new product features in collaboration with product and design teams.
- Engage with end-users to gather insights and tailor solutions to their needs.
- Architect and maintain scalable, reliable distributed backend systems.
- Ensure the stability, performance, and maintainability of backend platforms powered by technologies such as Django and Celery.
- Define and evolve data models across backend data sources.
- Promote and implement best engineering practices within the team and organization.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of software development experience or equivalent.
- Expertise in Python.
- Proficient in SQL with a deep understanding of query performance and optimization.
- Experience architecting highly available distributed systems, including handling production-grade ML workloads.
- Flexibility to work across the technology stack as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively interacting internally and externally.
- Passion for working in a values-driven environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be based in the United States; remote work with required attendance at quarterly offsites and annual engineering hackathons.
Nice to Have
- Strong experience in Django and Celery highly preferred.
- Previous experience in a high-growth startup is a plus.
