Flashbots is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Flashbots is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join its L2 team. In this role, you will work on foundational blockchain infrastructure, tackle complex technical challenges, and collaborate with industry-leading experts across scaling, MEV, and DeFi. Your contributions will shape flagship products and drive essential open-source innovation.

What You'll Do

  • Lead or support development of high-performance backend infrastructure for rollups, including block builders, sequencers, and decentralized execution environments powered by TEE technology.
  • Own key infrastructure components across CI/CD, observability, automation, and runtime performance tooling that support our production systems serving millions of users.
  • Collaborate closely with protocol, research, and backend teams to design infrastructure that balances fast UX with decentralization goals and censorship resistance.
  • Debug production systems at the OS, network, or runtime level and drive reliability improvements across the stack to maintain our industry-leading uptime standards.
  • Contribute to and lead open-source infrastructure projects that advance the MEV ecosystem and blockchain scalability.

What We're Looking For

  • 4-10 years of experience with production systems and deep understanding of infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps concepts at scale.
  • Strong skills in Rust or Go, with the ability to build high-performance, secure systems.
  • Exceptional communication and coordination skills for a remote-first, global environment.
  • Motivation to solve hard problems that have asymmetric impact and strike at the core of crypto's infrastructure challenges.

Nice to Have

  • Contributed to execution layer or node projects like Geth, Reth, or rbuilder.
  • Experience running Ethereum infrastructure, such as clients, builders, rollup sequencers, or MEV-Boost components.
  • Contributed to open-source infrastructure tooling or participated in protocol engineering discussions.
  • Worked with TEEs, secure enclaves (like Intel TDX), or other trusted compute primitives.
  • Built high-throughput or latency-sensitive systems (e.g., trading infrastructure, real-time data processing).
  • Deep understanding of MEV, L2 scaling solutions, or DeFi protocols.

Technical Stack

  • Rust
  • Go

Team & Environment

You will join the L2 team and work in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with protocol, research, and backend teams.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Significantly above market rate equity compensation package.
  • Unlimited PTO with a high level of freedom and autonomy.
  • Attractive health coverage package for US employees.
  • $3000 yearly budget for individual learning and development goals.
  • Paid travel, including 2 team on-sites in different parts of the world per year plus periodic travel to events.

Work Mode

This is a fully remote role open to candidates anywhere in the world.

At Flashbots, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability status.
