Back Market is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer II for our Shipping Core team. You will be responsible for building and operating efficient, high-cohesion, low-coupling services to support our business growth. In this role, you will work in an agile 'build it and run it' environment, modernizing our platform from a monolith to a distributed service-oriented architecture.

What You'll Do

• Build and operate a set of efficient, high-cohesion, low-coupling services with security and privacy by design.
• Work in an agile 'build it and run it' environment where teams build, launch, monitor, and support the product they own.
• Produce clean, consistent, and well-organized code.
• Facilitate meaningful discussions around complex issues.
• Suggest or make improvements for existing designs and architecture for quarter-bounded projects or mission-critical areas.
• Explore technologies with sizable potential impact for the team.
• Contribute actively to high-impact chaos migration.
• Identify and advocate for prioritization of tasks that can optimize delivery.
• Support colleagues and create a learning and sharing environment.
• Ensure a seamless transition with zero downtime and no revenue loss.
• Reduce complexity while increasing adaptability of the codebase for new country openings.
• Guarantee high performance and reliability of production environments.

Technical Stack

• Languages/Frameworks: Python - FastAPI framework, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Golang, Django (being phased out)
• Data Stores: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, BigQuery
• Infrastructure/Platform: GCP, Kubernetes (GKE) / Docker
• Monitoring/CI-CD: Datadog, ArgoCD / CircleCI / Github

Team & Environment

You will be part of the Bureau of Technology (BoT), which consists of over 30 product teams and a Platform group with more than 10 specialized teams. You'll work closely with all members of your squad and the Staff engineer of your group, and participate in bi-monthly rituals with your group and the Backend Chapter.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid position open to candidates in the US, FR, ES, and JP. It includes 2 remote days a week and 1 remote work week per quarter, plus 3 flex days.
