Misfits Market is hiring a Senior Art Director to serve as the strategic steward and creative leader for our brand. You will own and evolve our visual identity, lead a small internal studio, and manage external agency relationships for private-label packaging. This role partners cross-functionally to define and elevate a cohesive brand vision across digital and physical customer experiences.
What You'll Do
- Directly manage a creative team, overseeing performance, growth, and project workloads.
- Coach team members for career development, provide feedback, set objectives, and create development plans.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive creative culture and mentor direct reports and product design team members.
- Own and evolve the visual identity system, including brand guidelines, typography, color, grids, imagery, iconography, and motion language.
- Lead and supervise external creative production partners for private-label packaging, including writing briefs, managing milestones, performing QA, and giving final approvals.
- Translate brand strategy into compelling creative concepts and executions that drive business outcomes.
- Set strategic direction for digital campaigns, email design systems, landing pages, and motion assets.
- Review, critique, and approve concepts and deliverables across multiple formats.
- Oversee private-label packaging projects as part of a broader brand program.
- Create and curate high-quality visual assets for digital campaigns, social media, storefront, internal communications, and photography.
- Plan and direct photo shoots, including developing shot lists, sourcing props, and providing on-set direction.
- Lead design for email systems, landing pages, and motion graphics.
- Partner with the Content Director and other brand marketing team members to develop integrated campaigns.
- Define and optimize workflows, timelines, and quality controls for both internal work and external agency projects.
- Maintain asset libraries, version control, and documentation of brand standards.
What We're Looking For
- 8-10 years of professional experience in visual design and creative leadership.
- Direct-to-consumer brand experience (agency or in-house) and a portfolio that includes packaging-focused work.
- A standout portfolio demonstrating leadership-level visual design across digital media, email, motion, and editorial formats.
- Deep expertise in typography, layout, grids, color theory, and visual storytelling.
- Proven experience designing for paid and organic social media, email design systems, landing pages, out-of-home advertising, and motion graphics.
- Hands-on experience planning and directing photo or food shoots.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
- Substantial experience leading and managing external agencies and freelancers, with excellent briefing, milestone management, and QA skills.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects with tight timelines in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Knowledge of design systems and scalable component libraries for web and email.
Nice to Have
- Interest or experience with packaging regulations, print production, and private label branding.
- After Effects or equivalent motion design skills.
- Motion design fluency for social and product storytelling, with TV experience as a plus.

Team & Environment
You will lead a small internal studio consisting of a designer, video producer, and contract photographer. You will supervise an external agency dedicated to private-label packaging and have a dotted-line relationship to the product design team.
