About the Role

Zillow Group is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist to be a hands-on technical leader for our partner communications AI systems. You will design novel models and evaluation frameworks that facilitate how real estate professionals and customers connect, from personalized messaging to intelligent AI assistants.

What You'll Do

  • Drive the modeling strategy for intelligent tools that enhance partner workflows, including messaging, summarization, and workflow automation.
  • Conduct applied research to design novel architectures and reasoning systems.
  • Design robust offline and online evaluation, including experiments and guardrails for GenAI systems.
  • Work with large, messy real-world data using big data tools to explore, transform, and productionalize features.
  • Partner with product and engineering to turn research into business impact while mentoring team members.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience applying advanced ML/AI to real-world problems.
  • Strong understanding of modern NLP, agentic, and LLM architectures with practical experience delivering conversational systems.
  • Experience designing and analyzing experiments and tying scientific metrics to clear business KPIs.
  • Proficient in Python and modern ML stacks like PyTorch and Transformers.
  • Ability to translate complex modeling trade-offs into clear narratives for product and engineering partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building language systems for applications with specific conversational or structural constraints.
  • Experience with agentic LLM frameworks, tool-using assistants, or reinforcement learning.
  • Doctoral degree in a STEM field and/or publications in machine learning or AI-related conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior scientists and contribute to shared libraries or best practices.

Part of the Partner Communications AI team within Zillow's AI organization.

Benefits & Compensation

  • In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC: $160,900.00 - $257,100.00 annually.
  • In Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont: $152,900.00 - $244,300.00 annually.
  • Eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Work Mode

This is a remote position. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.
