HITACHI ENERGY CHILE S.A. is hiring a Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer (f/m/d)

As the Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer, you will direct the technical development of protection and control solutions for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission projects. Your primary responsibility is to interpret customer specifications and convert them into fully realized system designs, ensuring clarity and precision when defining requirements for sub-suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive protection and control system designs based on project-specific technical demands
  • Assess supplier proposals for alignment with engineering standards and technical accuracy
  • Lead coordination between internal teams, external vendors, and client stakeholders
  • Review protection panel layouts to confirm correct integration of interfaces and communication protocols
  • Verify consistency across functional requirements, relay settings, and system configurations ahead of Factory Acceptance Testing
  • Oversee supplier-led FAT procedures and ensure adherence to project quality benchmarks
  • Deliver technical support during field installation and Site Acceptance Testing, either remotely or on location

Qualifications and Skills

You bring proven experience in power system protection, including in-depth knowledge of relay functionalities covering protection, control, measurement, and supervision. You are familiar with multiple relay manufacturers and understand best practices in panel design and system integration. Your background includes power system studies, grid code compliance, and protection coordination analysis. You can independently validate relay settings and configurations, interpret complex technical documentation, and manage sub-supplier engagement across project phases. Experience with FAT and SAT execution, as well as solid planning and risk management abilities, are essential.

This is an onsite position based in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, with flexible working hours enabled through time accounts. Compensation follows the IG Metall collective agreement for Baden-Württemberg, including special payments.
