Stride, Inc. / K12 is hiring a School Counselor for Coast to Mountains Preparatory Academy (CMPA), a Stride K12 partner school. In this role, you will utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success. Your work will center on delivering a comprehensive school counseling program with a focus on academic achievement, social-emotional development, and career/college readiness.
What You'll Do
- Help all students plan for postsecondary options (enroll, enlist, employ), apply academic achievement strategies, and manage emotions and interpersonal skills.
- Focus students and families on college and career readiness.
- Meet quarterly with all students on your caseload to review graduation plans and post-secondary options.
- Deliver classroom instruction based on student success standards.
- Review transcripts and other academic documentation for new and returning students.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop four-year graduation plans and audit student schedules for graduation candidacy.
- Assist students in course placement including Advanced Placement (AP) recommendations and pathways.
- Analyze student data and develop data-driven programs for intervention action plans.
- Provide short-term counseling to students and referrals for long-term support.
- Provide a support system that strengthens the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents.
- Support the standardized testing program, parent education, and staff development.
- May advocate for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement.
- Appropriate state Department of Education School Counselor Certification.
- School Counselor License.
- Ability to clear a required background check.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in school counseling.
- Experience with distance learning.
- Advanced coursework in counseling and administration.
- Experience as a teacher.
- Experience in a customer service environment.
- Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting.
- Experience in a charter school environment.
- Experience with state career planning systems, Pathfinder, or other career planning platforms/tools.
