Inspect and safeguard vital bridge infrastructure through advanced rope access techniques as part of a nationwide team. This role focuses on field-based assessments of bridges using SPRAT-certified methods, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with safety standards. You will conduct detailed inspections, capture photographic documentation, and contribute to comprehensive reporting for transportation networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rope access operations in accordance with SPRAT Level I standards to reach and inspect hard-to-access bridge components
- Assist in rigging setups, equipment verification, and emergency response planning for field teams
- Document inspection findings with precision, including notes and imagery, to support engineering analysis
- Collaborate with project leads to ensure timely and accurate completion of field tasks
- Maintain, organize, and transport inspection tools and safety gear between project sites
- Travel extensively across the United States to support inspection assignments in varied environments
- Support report development by compiling field data and technical observations
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent with technical training, along with current SPRAT Level I certification. One year of hands-on rope access experience specifically on bridge structures is required. Experience operating inspection vehicles such as bucket trucks or under-bridge units is essential. Proficiency in reading technical drawings and following engineering guidance is expected, along with basic MS Office skills. A valid driver’s license and physical ability to work at height, carry gear, and navigate uneven terrain are mandatory.
Preferred Background
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
- Completion of FHWA National Highway Institute courses in bridge safety and fracture-critical inspection
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods or interest in acquiring such skills
- FAA Part 107 drone operator certification
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or structural modeling software
