As an RF Wireless Engineering Intern at Impinj, you will join the Systems Engineering team to deepen your expertise in RF and RFID technologies. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and technologists to model, simulate, and analyze RF power delivery and communication links within RFID systems.
What You'll Do
- Investigate theoretical background of RFID communication links and of RF power delivered into RFID tags by reviewing established research and discussions with engineers
- Model and simulate RF power delivered based on antenna source impedances, IC impedances, and IC operating points
- Model and simulate radar backscatter and modulation backscatter using EM simulation tools
- Reconcile and optimize model and simulations with existing measurements
- Analyze model and simulations and explore RF parameters to optimize performance of communication link and power delivery
- Augment existing research by compiling and documenting both the analysis and simulations
What We're Looking For
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a focus on RF and/or wireless communications
- 1-3+ years of relevant coursework in signal processing, filtering, channel capacity, signal-to-noise ratio, bit-error rate, electromagnetic (EM) waves, EM propagation, s-parameters, reflection/transmission coefficients, smith chart, and matching circuits
- Experience with EM simulation tools, such as Ansys FHSS and CST Studio
- Clear communication skills and ability to document technical information for a variety of intended audiences
- Coding experience in Python with basic scientific packages, such as NumPy and Matplotlib
