The General Hospital Corporation is hiring a Staff Respiratory Therapist for a full-time, 36-hour day shift position at Faulkner Hospital. You will assess, treat, monitor, and manage patients with breathing or cardiovascular disorders, providing care that includes oxygen administration, ventilator management, and patient education.
What You'll Do
- Determine respiratory treatment goals in consultation with physicians and nurses.
- Deliver and assess responses to ordered therapy to restore patient pulmonary function.
- Administer prescribed aerosol drugs and utilize therapeutic gas equipment, including masks, BIPAP/CPAP, and ventilators.
- Perform bronchopulmonary drainage techniques like percussion/vibration, Acapella, and incentive spirometry.
- Monitor physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs and arterial blood gases.
- Educate patients and families on correct MDI or aerosol use, smoking cessation, and respiratory equipment.
- Assist in educating students and orienting new employees.
- Perform arterial blood gas puncture and assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation.
- Respond to Code Blue, stat calls, and function as a member of the Rapid Response Team.
- Maintain the patient-ventilator system through proper airway management and monitoring.
- Act as a critical care team member, attending rounds and offering patient care suggestions.
- Assist and direct treatments given by CRTs and those with limited licenses.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition and treatment acceptance.
What We're Looking For
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Care.
- Current Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS certification (must be obtained within first 90 days of employment).
- PALS certification (must be obtained within first 90 days of employment).
- Adherence to all C.A.R.E. Standards.
- Commitment to maintaining professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional societies.
- Ability to perform yearly departmental competencies in a timely fashion.
- Adherence to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations.
- Physical capability for frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment.
- Ability to provide age and culturally-appropriate care.
- Compliance with College of American Pathologists, CMS, and Joint Commission standards.
Nice to Have
- 1+ year of experience is preferred.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $29.23 - $44.48 per hour.
