About the Role

Northwestern Memorial Healthcare seeks a Rehabilitation Nurse Technician (RNT) dedicated to supporting patients recovering from severe and chronic conditions. In this role, you will be an essential member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, providing direct patient care focused on promoting maximal independence and skill practice. What You'll Do

  • Collect and report physiological, psychological, and functional patient data.
  • Assist and instruct patients with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and preventive skin care.
  • Support bladder and bowel training programs, including performing straight catheterization for select patients.
  • Accurately obtain vital signs, blood glucose measurements, and 12-lead EKGs, escalating concerns to the RN.
  • Assist patients with transfers, mobility, and the application of assistive devices or prosthetics.
  • Help patients with meals, including 1:1 feeds, calorie counts, and dysphagia strategies.
  • Proactively respond to patient needs through comfort rounding and call light triage.
  • Obtain patient weights, collect lab specimens, and prepare patients for therapy sessions.
  • Provide supervision and de-escalation techniques for patients with high-risk behaviors.
  • Maintain unit equipment, serve as a preceptor, and participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Serve on the Cardiac Arrest team, perform high-quality CPR, and participate in bedside handoff.
  • Rotate to all units based on patient care needs and adjust to changing policies and patient populations.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) OR current enrollment in an RN Nursing Program with successful completion of two clinical rotations.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s Mission and Values.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.
  • 12-lead EKG competency completed within 6 months of employment.

Nice to Have

  • 2-5 years of work experience in a rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital, or skilled nursing facility.
