Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is hiring a Rehab Nurse Tech (RNT). In this role, you will embody our mission and values as a vital member of our interdisciplinary rehabilitation care team. You will provide specialized support to help patients with severe chronic conditions and complex disabilities achieve independence and adjust to their health needs.
What You'll Do
- Collect and report physiological, psychological, and functional patient data.
- Assist and instruct patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities to promote maximal independence.
- Perform preventive skin care and report changes in skin integrity.
- Assist with bladder and bowel training programs and perform straight catheterization for select patients.
- Obtain and document vital signs, communicating any reportable values or signs of distress.
- Assist patients with transfers, mobility, and the application of assistive devices or prosthetics.
- Assist with meal service, including cueing patients with swallowing strategies and calculating nutritional intake.
- Answer patient call lights and proactively meet care needs.
- Obtain patient weights and collect laboratory specimens as directed.
- Obtain blood glucose measurements and 12-lead EKGs as ordered.
- Provide supervision or restraint for patients at high risk for fall or injury.
- Employ de-escalation techniques and serve as a safety 1:1 for patients as needed.
- Precept new employees and partner with nursing students.
- Serve on the Cardiac Arrest team performing high-quality CPR.
- Participate in bedside handoff and contribute to quality improvement projects.
- Communicate effectively with patients and foster positive working relationships with peers.
- Rotate to all units based on patient care needs and adjust to changes in policy and patient population.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) or current enrollment in an RN Nursing Program with successful completion of two clinical rotations.
- Current CPR certification.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and provide a high level of customer service.
- Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s Mission and Values.
- Flexibility to manage work in a changing environment.
- Ability to complete 12-lead EKG competency within 6 months of employment.
Nice to Have
- 2-5 years of work experience in a rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital, or skilled nursing facility.
