Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is hiring a Rehabilitation Nurse Technician (RNT). In this role, you will be a vital member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation care team, supporting patients with complex disabilities and chronic conditions. You will assist patients in achieving independence and adjusting to their health, reflecting our mission, vision, and values.
What You'll Do
- Collect and report physiological, psychological, and functional patient data.
- Assist and instruct patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, promoting maximal independence.
- Perform preventive skin care and report changes in skin integrity.
- Assist with bladder and bowel training programs, and perform straight catheterization for select patients under RN direction.
- Accurately obtain and document vital signs, communicating any reportable values to the RN.
- Assist patients with transfers, mobility activities, and application of assistive devices within safe handling guidelines.
- Assist patients with meal trays and snacks, verifying modified diets and calculating/documenting calorie counts as ordered.
- Provide 1:1 feeding assistance and cue patients with dysphagia on swallowing strategies.
- Answer and triage patient call lights proactively.
- Set up patient rooms for therapy readiness and obtain patient weights weekly or as ordered.
- Collect laboratory specimens, obtain blood glucose measurements, and perform 12-lead EKGs as directed.
- Transfer patients from wall to tank oxygen or tube feedings for therapy.
- Provide supervision, activities, or restraint use for patients at high risk for fall or injury.
- Conduct regular comfort and safety rounds and provide de-escalation techniques.
- Serve as a safety 1:1 observer for patients as needed.
- Preceptor new employees and partner with nursing students during clinical rotations.
- Serve on the Cardiac Arrest team performing high-quality CPR and participate in bedside handoff.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist with data collection for audits and regulatory readiness.
- Rotate to all units based on patient care needs and adjust to changes in policy and patient population.
What We're Looking For
- High School degree or GED equivalent.
- Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) or current enrollment in an RN Nursing Program with successful completion of two clinical rotations.
- Current CPR certification.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to communicate with diverse people and provide a high level of customer service.
- Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s Mission and Values.
- Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.
- 12-lead EKG competency completed within 6 months of employment.
Nice to Have
- 2-5 years of work experience in a rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital, or skilled nursing facility.
