Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is hiring an R&D Engineer Intern within the Supply Chain Engineering Department. In this role, you will work within the Applied Sustainment Technology Division to develop innovative solutions for Department of Defense engineering and technology needs, collaborating across departments.
What You'll Do
- Perform engineering experiments, tests, and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
- Apply an analytical approach to solve a wide variety of problems and specialized techniques for unforeseen or novel challenges.
- Collaborate with other team members of different skillsets and backgrounds to accomplish project goals.
- Build prototypes for testing purposes and perform data analysis, optimization studies, and other investigations including sustainment and decision-making.
- Review and evaluate results and conclusions of research tasks.
- Document and communicate findings and recommendations in professional reports and presentations.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to perform data analysis with skills in Excel, R, and/or Python (or similar technology).
- Ability to explore research methodologies.
- Ability to prepare data for use in computational models.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment while meeting task schedule requirements.
- Written and verbal communication skills to communicate research findings to sponsors and collaborate with team members.
