Role Overview
Manage quality assurance operations for federal construction projects in Sitka, AK under a USCG task order. This position is responsible for ensuring all construction activities meet contractual, technical, and safety standards through systematic oversight, documentation, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Quality Control Management Plan across all project phases—from initiation to final acceptance.
- Review project specifications and ensure field work aligns with contract requirements and approved standards.
- Examine shop drawings and submittals for compliance, using internal expertise when necessary to verify accuracy.
- Track and coordinate approval of material submittals, ensuring timely processing and documentation.
- Lead weekly quality meetings with site leadership and deliver daily QC reports as specified in contract documents.
- Manage Non-Conformance Notices and Request for Information (RFI) processes, driving corrective actions to resolution.
- Log daily inspection findings, including photographic documentation of progress and quality observations.
- Maintain up-to-date submittal logs and generate project-specific quality reports.
- Conduct preparatory and follow-up meetings to clarify quality expectations for each work package.
- Verify incoming materials match approved submittals and contract specifications, and confirm proper handling and storage on site.
- Hold preconstruction meetings with the superintendent and subcontractors before starting new project phases.
- Document and manage test and inspection records for all construction activities.
- Ensure testing labs, equipment, and procedures meet project requirements, including calibration and report validation.
- Perform follow-up inspections to confirm ongoing compliance with contract documents and approved submittals.
- Coordinate and record system testing and commissioning for building components.
- Track punch list items from contractor and government sources, verifying completion before final inspection.
- Document final inspections, certificates of occupancy, and formal acceptance of completed work.
- Update 'as-built' drawings regularly and compile closeout deliverables such as O&M manuals, warranties, and as-built documentation.
- Have authority to halt work if safety or quality concerns arise.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of recent experience on at least five multi-million-dollar federal renovation projects involving multiple trades.
- Familiarity with USACE Three Phases of Quality Control methodology.
- Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Adaptable to changing conditions and project demands.
- Knowledge of construction best practices and occupational safety regulations.
- Understanding of applicable local, state, and federal codes.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain general clearance for military site access.
- Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act standards.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Must be based in Sitka, AK, or willing to relocate.
- Available to work six days per week, 10 hours per day.
Preferred Qualifications
- USACE Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification, or ability to obtain it upon hire.
- Prior experience on Federal or Department of Defense construction projects.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position located in Sitka, Alaska. The role requires consistent field presence and adherence to a six-day workweek schedule.
