Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Quality Assurance Product Coordinator to join our Quality Assurance Team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, reviewing, approving, and maintaining product and packaging specifications. You will oversee the review of all product samples and manage the QA set-up process for all items in development, ensuring our commitment to great tasting, responsibly produced authentic foods.
What You'll Do
- Collect, review, and approve specifications for new products from suppliers.
- Assist suppliers as needed with packaging, labeling, and coding.
- Save, file, and organize all product-related documentation.
- Handle various specification and product-related customer requests.
- Create and update spec sheets for all products; confirm product labels match specifications.
- Manage the timeline for each product in development.
- Partner with the Marketing Department on label creation for new items, providing technical information and ensuring compliance with FDA and regulatory requirements.
- Manage enrollment and compliance of claims and certifications (non-GMO project, gluten free, vegan, etc.).
- Create nutritional panels, collecting data from partner suppliers or labs.
- Lead weekly review of products with the Sampling Team and maintain records of the results.
- Set up, participate in, and document review and tasting of potential and competitive products.
- Test first shipments of new products against specifications.
- Monitor and test products that have a history of quality problems.
- Test samples of ‘new crop’ products, sometimes traveling to facilities to do so.
- Conduct in-house shelf life studies.
- Review supplier quality reports and production records for key items; identify lots that require review and approval.
- Arrange shipping and testing of samples for products with reported quality concerns.
- Assist with investigation of quality issues reported by customers on recently launched products.
- Visit the warehouse as needed to collect samples or investigate issues.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in a quality assurance or food production role.
- 2+ years of experience in a product development or project management role.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
- Extremely organized with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to move and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Able to quickly adjust priorities and handle unexpected & time sensitive requests.
- A passion for food.
Nice to Have
- A BS/STEM degree.
- Understanding of SSOP’s, GMP’s and HACCP/PCQI training or certification.
