Ohio Attorney General's Office was looking for a Psychiatric/DD Nurse

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is hiring a Psychiatric/DD Nurse to join the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD). In this role, you will be responsible for primary nursing care for assigned residents, including comprehensive treatment planning, medical administration, and health assessments.

What You'll Do

  • Assume primary nursing responsibility for assigned residents, including nursing treatment planning, verification and review of physician orders, chart audits, and self-medication plans.
  • Communicate medical information to parents and guardians as appropriate.
  • Process physician orders for labs, x-rays, and appointments, enter data into computerized records, and relay changes in resident status to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Schedule follow-up care and communicate medical appointments to necessary personnel.
  • Assess preventative health screening forms and ensure quarterly physical exams are completed.
  • Assist residents with feeding, grooming, and self-care tasks.
  • Evaluate client and staff injuries and administer first aid.
  • Respond to medical and psychotropic emergencies, including performing CPR and assisting in decision-making in the supervisor’s absence.
  • Monitor health care charts on living areas to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of care.
  • Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating closely with client physicians.
  • Submit reports including IPP input, chart audits, and psychotropic medication reviews.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate client self-medication programs.
  • Provide health teaching and direction to family, staff, and clients as directed.
  • Assist in orienting and training new staff.
  • Conduct and participate in In-Service training sessions.
  • Provide clinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
  • Perform other related duties such as providing input on Unusual Incident Reports, completing shift reports, and ensuring the proper maintenance and security of the drug cupboard.

You will work under the direction of the Psychiatric/DD Nurse Director as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Compensation starts at $34.96 per hour, increasing to $36.65 per hour after 180 days.
