Penn State is seeking an Associate Director, Affinity Engagement to join the Alumni Association’s Volunteer Engagement team. This role provides oversight, project management, and operations for alumni affinity programs and requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
What You'll Do
- Develop strategy and programs for the Alumni Association’s network of alumni interest groups, the Black Alumni Reunion, the FastStart mentoring program, and more.
- Articulate Penn State’s needs, ambitions, and values through excellent informal and formal communications.
- Provide coaching, direction, and strategy to the Alumni Association’s network of alumni interest groups and their boards and volunteers.
- Develop, plan, and execute programming for the FastStart mentorship program, which serves students from underrepresented backgrounds.
- Partner with select audiences and groups, like the Black Alumni Reunion committee, to plan and execute activities.
- Provide strategic direction and support for volunteer engagement opportunities for our diverse community of alumni and friends.
- Evaluate existing programs and services to determine strategies that support changing needs for volunteer opportunities.
- Lead, coach, and supervise volunteers to achieve goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, with particular attention to those serving diverse audiences.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s Degree.
- 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with alumni and student engagement, volunteer management, stewardship, supervision, and financial oversight.
- Ability to manage a complex program and build relationships with students, alumni, and friends.
- Dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with various communities.
- Strong communication skills; you will develop and produce internal and external presentations, proposals, and reports.
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored.
Team & Environment
Reports to the Director, Volunteer Engagement. Works closely with the Alumni Association’s Volunteer Engagement team and other partners.
