Montrose Services, LLC is hiring a Project Landscape Designer

Responsibilities

  • Design neighborhood-scale and individual site reuse plans for brownfield areas using comprehensive planning methods.
  • Conduct desktop research on demographic and socioeconomic data to inform planning decisions.
  • Review and summarize prior planning and design initiatives to guide current projects.
  • Perform site and neighborhood assessments through field reconnaissance and analysis.
  • Develop visual and written inventories and analyses to support design proposals.
  • Formulate initial and final reuse programs based on market data, community feedback, and environmental limitations.
  • Produce conceptual sketches, diagrams, and illustrative vignettes to communicate design ideas.
  • Engage stakeholders through charrettes, workshops, and participatory design sessions to gather input.
  • Present and refine design alternatives using iterative feedback processes.
  • Incorporate community and client feedback into evolving design concepts.
  • Finalize conceptual design drawings in plan, section, and perspective views.
  • Compile design deliverables into comprehensive reports and documentation.
  • Present technical project details and updates to diverse audiences to promote transparency and involvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop compliant and effective remediation designs.
  • Assess redevelopment options considering zoning laws and municipal ordinances.
  • Prepare detailed landscape construction drawings and provide oversight during construction phases.
  • Promote public engagement through digital outreach, marketing, and communication campaigns.
  • Facilitate dialogue among stakeholders including property owners, agencies, developers, and community groups.
  • Support participatory design processes that integrate community input into final outcomes.
  • Assist with meeting documentation and follow-up actions from engagement activities.
  • Manage projects from initiation to completion, including budget, timeline, and resource planning.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and implement solutions to meet objectives.
  • Maintain and adjust schedules according to regulatory, grant, or community-driven timelines.
  • Coordinate internal teams across multiple offices and disciplines as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Design, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in design development and construction oversight.
  • Proficient in technical software including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, or StoryMaps.
  • Skilled in design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Driver’s License and successful Motor Vehicle Records check.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with community engagement tools like Survey123 or Social Pinpoint.
  • Background working with state or federal funding programs.
  • Direct experience with brownfield site redevelopment.
  • Strong graphic design abilities.
  • Ability to develop and manage social media content.

Stakeholder and Public Engagement

  • Facilitating communication and collaboration among stakeholders, including property owners, developers, government agencies, community groups, and the public through in-person and virtual meetings, neighborhood workshops, site tours, community surveys, and focus groups.
  • Assistance with implementing participatory design processes where stakeholder and community engagement efforts are clearly integrated into design outcomes.
  • Assistance with note taking and engagement follow up activities

Project Management

  • Manage project tasks from inception through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project progress, assess risks, and implement corrective actions to achieve project milestones and objectives.
  • Maintaining project schedules and adjusting based on community, regulatory, or grant timelines, tracking internal budgets, grant allocations, and percent complete for multiple projects, Coordinating staff across multiple nationwide offices and disciplines, when necessary.
  • Leading and facilitating project discussions internally and among clients.
  • Identify and recommend project next steps.

Other

  • Contribute to the growth of the Brownfields Planning and Engagement Practice.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities to advance conceptual design projects into construction.
  • Stay current with industry trends through formal training, professional publications, and workshops.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations, including required safety training.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team support activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate adaptability and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exercise high levels of organization, self-discipline, and situational awareness.
  • Willingness to travel locally and out-of-state.
