Responsibilities
- Manage scope of work for your team, and determine how to divide work amongst designers
- Lead design strategy for complex initiatives and help grow design leaders
- Drive design vs business objectives and measurement alignment on core product initiatives
- Ensure successful execution by your team. Surface and address questions, bottlenecks, dependencies, and conflicts as they arise, working with stakeholders when needed
- Maintain and apply a process for effective design
- Build a healthy, high performing, capability-complete team. You hire designers to fill open headcount. You foster a positive culture on your team.
- Coach and mentor your direct reports to make sure they hone their competencies and grow in their careers
- Lead projects and teams to define and sell a coherent medium to long term vision, with milestones and short term actions to get there
- Represent your team upwards to your manager: you ensure the team's priorities are well understood, you advocate for them, and you flag any underperformers, stakeholder misalignments, or other challenges they face.
- Partner with a design leadership team to help shape management practices, and mentor other design leaders to put those in practice
