HII Mission Technologies is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join Enlighten. In this role, you will be a key contributor to designing, building, and scaling core infrastructure that manages trillions of records, ingests billions of new records daily, and services hundreds of thousands of queries per day for the Department of Defense.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain complex backend systems capable of handling massive data volumes and high query loads.
- Take full ownership of challenging technical projects from initial concept through to production and iteration.
- Build RESTful APIs, modify open-source software like Trino, implement identity federation solutions, and develop large-scale data ingestion pipelines.
- Collaborate effectively within a team of experienced engineers, contributing to a culture of shared knowledge.
- Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex technical issues to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Operate with a high degree of independence in a low-process environment, taking initiative and driving results.
What We're Looking For
- U.S. Citizenship required. A current U.S. Government Security Clearance is desired.
- 15+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 13 years with a Master's; or 19 years with a High School Diploma.
- Proficiency in Java, Python, or Go.
- Experience working with or modifying Trino or similar distributed SQL engines.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- A drive for pragmatic solutions with a strong bias for action and a collaborative, low-ego approach.
- Self-motivated and thrive in a low-process, high-autonomy environment.
- Highly adaptable and a quick learner, comfortable mastering new technologies.
- Significant experience building and maintaining API endpoints and backend services.
- Comfortable modifying and extending complex open-source projects.
- Practical experience with identity federation protocols and deployment automation/CI/CD.
- Strong problem-solving and excellent communication skills.
- This is a fully remote role unless located near Columbia, MD; San Antonio, TX; Boise, ID; Greenville, SC; or Augusta, GA.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with Keycloak for identity management.
- Experience with workflow management tools like Airflow.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus.
- Experience with AWS cloud services (S3, EC2, KMS, Bedrock).
- Exposure to or interest in other cloud platforms like GCP or Azure.
