As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will lead the development of scalable, secure backend systems that power live mobile games with large, concurrent player bases. You'll design and maintain microservices, APIs, and distributed data architectures that support real-time multiplayer, live-ops events, and persistent game states.
What You'll Do
- Architect and deploy resilient, low-latency server infrastructure using C#, Go, or similar languages.
- Ensure high availability and fault tolerance through thoughtful system design and disaster recovery planning.
- Integrate backend services with Unity clients, enabling features like matchmaking, leaderboards, and cloud saves.
- Optimize system performance, implement monitoring solutions, and conduct thorough testing across environments.
- Utilize cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure to support auto-scaling and efficient resource management.
- Collaborate with game designers, data scientists, and frontend engineers to bring gameplay features to life.
- Enforce strong security practices to protect player information and maintain trust.
- Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and promote engineering excellence across teams.
- Ensure data consistency across SQL and NoSQL databases in distributed environments.
- Stay ahead of evolving technologies and lead post-mortems to improve system reliability.
What We're Looking For
- At least 7 years of backend engineering experience, including work on Unity-based games or live-service features.
- Strong command of server-side languages such as C#, Go, Java, or Python.
- Proven experience building or integrating real-time gameplay systems like authentication, multiplayer, or cloud synchronization.
- Deep familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and microservices.
- Experience with database design, real-time data processing, and performance tuning.
- Track record of delivering secure, scalable systems in production environments.
- Excellent communication skills and experience guiding engineering teams.
Nice to Have
- Background in analytics pipelines, live-ops tooling, or authoritative server design for mobile games.
