AECOM is hiring a Principal Engineer- Secondary Substation

About the Role

This position leads the engineering and technical delivery of secondary substation systems, ensuring designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards while guiding project teams through planning, documentation, and implementation phases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and technical oversight of secondary systems for electrical substations
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation including schematics, layouts, and specifications
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integrated power system solutions
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project staff
  • Review protection schemes and control system integration for substation operations
  • Manage engineering deliverables within project timelines and budgets
  • Conduct design reviews and risk assessments for substation safety and performance
  • Interface with clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies during project development
  • Support the development of technical proposals and project scopes of work
  • Evaluate new technologies and methodologies for substation automation and monitoring
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are followed
  • Prepare and present technical reports and design studies
  • Coordinate with construction teams to resolve field issues and ensure design intent
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical system challenges
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry advancements and standards
  • Support sustainability goals through efficient system design
  • Mentor team members in technical and professional development
  • Oversee vendor and contractor technical submissions
  • Ensure integration of cybersecurity principles in control systems where applicable
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering workflows
  • Participate in project lifecycle phases from concept through commissioning
  • Manage interfaces between primary and secondary substation systems
  • Support safety by design principles in all engineering outputs
  • Assist in the development of standard design practices
