Boston Scientific is looking for two (2) Principal Designers to join our fast-growing team. In this role, you will lead the commercialization of new products and improvements, focusing on developing processes from concept to production. You will collaborate cross-functionally to design and commercialize advanced technology across Boston Scientific’s global plant network.
What You'll Do
- Hold and conduct team meetings on projects to review trade-offs, layouts, and analyses to optimize solutions.
- Utilize complex software tools (Solidworks, Capture, and Windchill) to create technical designs that fulfill mechanical specifications.
- Give direction to other individual contributors and communicate effectively to accomplish project tasks.
- Gather data and present to upper management using tools like Excel and Word.
- Leverage communication skills to facilitate the design process and reach project completion.
- Develop, test, and execute complex mechanical systems and designs.
- Demonstrate full knowledge of GD&T tolerancing.
- Work independently on projects, meet timelines, and document proven concepts with supporting data.
- Create product concepts using current tool analysis techniques and technologies through parametric CAD software.
- Perform mechanical design/redesign of medical device products applying industry standards (ASME Y14.5M-2009).
- Create, modify, and maintain documentation using CAD tools tied to a data management system.
- Provide support for OEM device documentation and Bill of Material structure.
- Complete document packages by detailing parts and creating BOMs and schematics.
- Review and verify design work of peers for compliance with standards and corporate procedures.
- May review engineering order (EO) packages and generate engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Use strong knowledge of pneumatics and kinetics.
- Recommend product improvements and enhancements to improve departmental methods and workflow.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, management, and other functional departments.
- Create timely, innovative, cost-effective design solutions and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Associate’s or 2-year technical degree (or higher) in mechanical drafting or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in mechanical design and using SolidWorks software.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude.
- Strong understanding of GD&T.
- Demonstrated ability to develop equipment, fixtures, and tooling from concept to production.
- Demonstrated cross-functional teamwork in a technically demanding environment.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel, domestic and international, up to 10%.
