Seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead a team in delivering water and wastewater utility projects in the Belfast office. The role includes managing full project lifecycles, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and working across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a portfolio of water and wastewater projects, ensuring delivery within agreed time, budget, and quality standards.
- Proactively identify, assess, and implement strategies to mitigate risks for clients and the organization.
- Collect and analyze engineering data using established methods, identifying inconsistencies and resolving discrepancies.
- Supervise and guide project team members, ensuring effective task execution and team coordination.
- Collaborate with management to secure appropriately skilled personnel for project needs.
- Exercise independent judgment in decision-making, particularly in complex or uncertain situations.
- Promote and uphold the highest standards in health, safety, and environmental practices across all project phases.
- Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations throughout design and construction stages.
- Oversee contractual project management from initial bidding through to project closeout.
- Coordinate with programming specialists to develop delivery schedules and track progress.
- Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and support to early-career engineers.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in leading civil infrastructure projects, particularly in water and wastewater utilities.
- Involvement across multiple project stages, including feasibility, reference design, detailed design, and construction management.
- Ability to produce technical reports, specifications, and manage comprehensive project documentation.
- Proven leadership skills with experience supervising engineering teams.
- Strong decision-making abilities with a focus on risk identification and mitigation.
- Knowledge of and adherence to health, safety, and environmental management standards.
- Experience ensuring CDM compliance during project delivery.
- Track record in managing project contracts from bid phase to completion.
- Collaboration with delivery and scheduling teams to align project execution.
- Experience providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
